User Comments about the Belkin TuneTalk Stereo for iPod 5G, 5.5G (Black)

I was amazed at the quality. It makes a file and labels it for easy sorting. Since he carries his IPOD everywhere he is able to listen on the go. He takes this to class and says that he had no problems recording lectures to review later. It was as if we did a digital download of the song. He let me play with it and we tested it by playing music on youtube and taking a cable from speaker out on the PC and speaker in on the Belkin. This has been a good solution instead of a hole new recording device. Ordered this for my sons IPOD to record college lectures.

In that condition, the iPod OS eventually chooses to defrag, and that defrag effort can disrupt recording. A reasonable estimate of iPod disk space needed is 1 GB per hour of recording. The recording sampling size and rate is CD quality to a lossless stereo WAV file.Aside from backing up our primary digital recorder, the iPod is also a convenient way to hand a copy to the teachers for use in class during the next school day.The distribution amp also feeds stereo audio at line level to a digital camcorder through roughly 80 feet of stereo cable. So I cannot comment on those. Reports indicate that the mics pick up iPod disk motor noise. It is basically a fire and forget approach. The iPod is powered through the TuneTalk power pass-through, from a Belkin power strip with USB power output. The complaints about intermittent recording are usually a result of recording on an iPod that is nearly full. The overall goal is to feed archives, provide students a chance to self-critique, and to raise funds for the school music program through recording sales. We use the video iPod plus TuneTalk as a backup, recording analog stereo line-level output from our primary recorder through a distribution amp.

Basically the iPod is never more than 50% full when we start recording. To avoid that defrag problem, we remove recordings from the video iPod after transfer to a computer for editing. Our approach is to turn it on roughly 10 minutes before the first downbeat, and turn it off at the end of the concert. Occasionally that feed fails, and the iPod WAV file becomes the replacement audio track for the video DVD product.I do not use the built-in mics on the Tune Talk. I have used the TuneTalk with my video iPod for about 3 years.I manage a volunteer effort to record audio and video of high school concerts including concert band, orchestra, and choir.

I purchased this equipment in February. I tried on my relatives iPod's as well and it just wasn't functioning. =/ When connecting it to my iPod, nothing would happen. I accidently through out the box it came in before I realized that the item didn't work at all. I wanted to reach out to the seller directly, however I'm new at this site and don't really know my way around. I'm so disappointed considering I was really excited about my new purchase. I hate to leave this comment in a public area.

It is very easy to plug into the bottom of your iPod and it automatically opens everything you need to start recording.

I would recommend this to anyone completing interviews or recording close-range.

When the person being recorded is in close range, the sound quality is pretty good.

For long distance, the recording becomes fuzzy.

The sound files also easily transfer to your iTunes to listen to, upload, etc.

I love not having to install more software.

I then bought one online, and have loved it.

This product is lightweight, easily transportable, and amazing.

I first borrowed this product from a friend and realized how handy it can be.

etc. I had the interviews ready to hand in multiple formats. On the nano, I can record for up to three hours without needing to recharge the batteries. I carry this in the coin pocket of my wallet, so it's to hand whenever I need it. and find it works just fine with that or with my 4G classic iPod. Best of all, the sound quality was CRYSTAL CLEAR. I'm a professional journalist and about the only part of my job I have ever actually loathed is transcribing interviews.

No more straining to understand what was just said; no more need to play back segments over and over to be sure you got something right. I imagine it would be ideal for lectures, for taking minutes during meetings, etc. I've been using this primarily with the previous generation of iPod nano (the square-shaped ones). Even jostling around in there with the quarters and dimes for weeks on end doesn't damage it. For the first time, I knew what interview was where (the backup feature -- putting the interviews into the iTunes library in their own folder -- is a breeze to use compared to other digital voice recorder backup systems I've tried to use) and could find it again readily. Simply a great product and invaluable for anyone who needs good quality (if not professional quality) reproduction. This little gizmo literally saved my sanity while I was working on a book project.
